The Geek Girls Guide

We're always on the lookout for interesting resources, including blogs, that might be of interest to freelance medical writers. One of our subscribers pointed us to The Geek Girls Guide, a site run by Nancy Lyons and Meghan Wilker, and we quickly became fans.

Launched in January 2008, the Geek Girls Guide offers Nancy and Meghan's perspective on the interactive industry and demystifies technology for nontechnical audiences. In their own words, their mission is to make web technology accessible and exciting, and cultivate a movement of empowered women and men online. Some of their recent blogs reviewed Google alerts, the Twitter hashtag, and the use of social media for job searching. Valuable information, for any industry.

One of the great features we build into every book in The Accidental Medical Writer series is the listing of resources you find at the end. It has taken us nearly 40 combined years working as freelance medical writers to find these resources. Needless to say, our literal and figurative (electronic) bookshelves are packed with a lot of great stuff.

We include a list of relevant resources in our books to save you the time and effort of having to discover them on your own, and to give you the benefit of our years of experience. Because the field of freelance medical writing isn’t static, we’re constantly finding valuable new resources. The key is that they have to be reliable. There is a lot of information out there that is just not suitable or appropriate for medical writers, whether you’re freelance or not.
